Making application for a roll and being on a roll are two separate things. Some 150,000 people applied for this payment when it was announced in 1908, but only about 35,000 made it to the final roll. This does NOT mean they were not Indian. Only that they could not prove their connection. Original applications are stored at the Southwest Branch of the National Archives in Ft. Worth Texas. This is for research purposes.Very few Goins members made it to the final roll.

Aug. 27,1906- May 18,1909 "Roll of the Eastern Cherokees"
The Guion Miller Roll was created as a result of a lawsuit filed by three groups of Cherokees who had not been paid all the money due them as a result of the 1835 Treaty of New Echota. This Illegal treaty forced the Cherokees,that refused to give up their tribal citizenship,from their homes and resulted in the "Trail of Tears". Each Qualifying applicant recieved a warrent worth 133.33 for their share of the money due them. In order to be accepted they had to prove descent from a person who was shown on the 1835 "Henderson Roll"or the Roll of Eastern Cherokees.
